Recently, beautification has been the name of the game around Manasquan Public Schools, and TeamWork has been the rule. In order to help stimulate pride in our facility, several volunteer projects have taken place recently. Looking to cut down on our labor costs and wanting to encourage faculty, staff, student and community pride in our schools, we have initiated several school wide projects this year.

First, the Art Club in the Elementary School painted a beautiful mural of a park on the side of an unsightly Dumpster, which sat in the driveway in front of their school. The Environmental Club then planted bulbs and shrubs in bare spots around the School. At the High School, a class in commercial and residential construction built a Waterfall in an area that sorely needed some beautification. The P.T.O. also got involved by supplying and installing holiday decorations in front of both schools. We had Corn Stalks in the fall and live Wreaths at Christmas time.

This program of beautification in the Manasquan School District has yielded positive results: The Department of Buildings and Grounds costs were helped by volunteer labor and donated material. The students’ participation in these projects has helped, I feel, to cut down on vandalism. The Staff, Students and Community at large have expressed a feeling of great pride in our beautifully maintained facility.

Many thanks to all whom participated in this volunteer effort, and thanks for a job well done!

Sincerely,

Bernard F. Bigley III
